Lyrics to Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek"

"Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap (the updated version directly from the imogen heap website!)

where are we? what the hell is going on?
the dust has only just began to fall
crop circles in the carpet, sinking, feeling
spin me around again and rub my eyes
this can't be happening
when busy streets a mess with people would stop to hold their heads heavy

hide and seek
trains and sewing machines?
all those years they were here first

oily marks appear on walls
where pleasue moments hung before
the takeover, the sweeping insensitivity of this
still alive

hide and seek
trains and sewing machines? oh, you won't catch me around here
blood and tears they were here first

mm what you say
oh that you only meant well, well of course you did
mm what you say
mm that it's all for the best, of course it is
mm what you say
that IT'S JUST what we need, you decided this
mm what you say
what did she say?

ransom notes keep falling at your mouth
mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs
speak no feeling no i don't believe you
you don't care a bit you don't care a bit

you don't care a bit
you don't care a bit
you don't care a bit
you don't care a bit
you don't care a bit

You were super close! I chuckled when I found your "site" with the lyrics - I jotted them down the other day and posted them as well b/c it seemed no one else out there was going to. Anyways, here're the real lyrics. I can't remember what odd words you had incorrect so I'm giving you the whole thing:

where are we?
what the hell is going on?
the dust has only just begun to fall
crop circles in the carpet
sinking, feeling
spin me ‘round again
and rub my eyes
this can’t be happening
when busy streets
amess with people
would stop to hold
their heads heavy

hide and seek
trains and sewing machines
all those years
they were here first

oily marks appear on walls
where pleasure moments hung before
the take-over
the sweeping insensitivity
of this still life

hide and seek
trains and sewing machines
[you won’t catch me around here]
blot out two hearts
they were here first

ohm what you say
mm that you only meant well
well of course you did
ohm what you say
mm that it’s all for the best
of course it is
ohm what you say
mm that it’s just what we need
you decided this
mm what you say
mm what did she say

ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
mint-sweet darkness
paper word cut-outs
[paper word cut-outs]
speak no feeling
no unbelieving
you don’t care a bit
you don’t care a bit
ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
sick sweet darkness
paper word cut-outs
speak no feeling
no unbelieving
you don’t care a bit
you don’t care a bit

no, no, no...

i know there's controversy, but the complete and correct lyrics can either be found on my blog: http://blogs.warwick.ac.uk/tom or on Imogen's website: www.imogenheap.com

The lyrics on my blog are definitely correct because they are the same as Imogen's site!

You can also get to my blog by searching for 'Imogen Heap Hide and Seek lyrics' in Google. It is the first result.

You can also find the proper lyrics at www.imogenheap.com

if you are looking for the site it is also

as opposed to the .com address

I want you to know that I do not condone such language on my blog. Please take yourself elsewhere. I am not removing the comment however because: 1) a think that people may exercise their first amendment rights freely without my interference and 2) I don't know how to remove it. But for the future, super offensive words should not be used here.

I HAD TO FIND IT ON THE INTERNET!!! but does anyone have a definition of what the song actually means?? i reckon it meant since da song sounded a bit fuzzy was like that sum1 was dying and questions were asked so memory loss as well?? i dont know..

I just figured out that Imogen Heap is the lead singer of Frou Frou... no wonder I loved the song! Frou Frou is the group that did the song from Garden State, everyone should check them out.

No, the O.C. does not suck, and they do a grand job of getting relatively unknown artists much-needed publicity. Without it, we'd never have heard this delectable song! I love the way Heap plays with her voice toward the end.. the part they don't play on the show is even better than what they do.

I banish you to Hoboken, New Jersey!

Greetings, Miss. I was searching for the lyrics to this song on Yahoo and your site was the first to come up with the desired results. I got caught up in reading all of the posts and although I have never heard of OC, I admit I first heard this song two days ago sitting in a movie theater listening to the music that plays before the previews begin. This is a great place to get exposure to different types of music--just look, I found this one. Anyway, thanks very much for the lyrics!

I also am absessed with this song ever since I heard it on my favorite show the O.C. I'm not quite sure what it means but just knowing it means something to someone out there makes the song intense! It just puts me at ease I guess. It's nice to know the jist of what the song is saying though so thanks for the lyrics.

'Hide and Seek'

Where are we?
what the hell is going on?
the dust has only
just begun to fall
Crop circles in the carpet
Sinking feeling

Spin me round again
and rub my eyes
this can't be happening
when busy streets a mess with people
would stop to hold their heads heavy

Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
All those years
They were here first

oily marks appear on walls
where pleasure moments hung before
the takeover
the sweeping insensitivity
of this
still life

Hide and seek
trains and sewing machines
Blood and tears
They were here first

mm what d'ya say?
that you only meant well, well of course you did
this it's all for the best, of course it is
that it's just what we need, you decided this?
what did you say?

Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid sweet talk newspaper word cut outs
Speak no feeling no I don't believe you
you don't care a bit

Argh, it was on the OC?

Maybe i'm wierd...I hate when my favorite music goes mainsteam.. especially for something like the OC.

Great song, anyway. Thanks for the lyrics. :)

and mary, if u want to delete that "rock lobster's" comment (just look at his comment) then click on the trash can below the comment, only the maker of this blog (you) can delete it.

You ALL have the lyrics wrong, which messes up the ENTIRE meaning of the song. I will give you only the corrections;

"The dust has only just begun to FORM crop circles..."

"Trains and SOARING machines...."

"BLOOD AND TEARS....."

"MID-SWEET TALK NEWSPAPER WORD CUT-OUTS"

And the song is about a guy who talks his girlfriend into moving to a big city and then he leaves her for another woman...

The song is mezmorizing!!!

Mary...You seem to be moving all around the east coast. Have you considered moving to a different country, like, say...California?

Thanks to you I finally found this great song :) .. This song was playing in the advertise of OC and I loved it. Thx!

I too heard this song from a TV program and was an instant fan! The show is "Smith" (or it will be soon, dont think it has been aired yet). It was played on during the closing scenes after all the action as one of the gang is dying ... very touching. I love reading all over the web how so many people have so many different views on the meaning of the lyrics.

Anonymous said...

I heard this song on SMITH this Tuesday and was like whoa! I love shows like the OC and One Tree Hill simply for their choice in songs (although I think One Tree Hill is an awesome show).

Anyway, a few weeks a go I was on iTunes and this person had this mix of the greatest female artists and she was on this list. I downloaded all the songs but this song was like 180 on the list and I had only gotten to 100. What a great find. Good to know there are other music lovers out there with tastes like mine.

Anonymous said...

Love the song...I heard it on Smith also, then saw the new Zach Braff movie "The Last Kiss" and it was on that soundtrack as well. He chose one of her songs for the "Garden State" soundtrack also, when she fronted Frou Frou.

holly... i can't believe nobody knows the lyrics of this song... such a good song with a really nice touch of music... it does'nt matter how the words go just listen to it and u'll understant it!!... peace out!!

Anonymous said...

The OC sucks... get a life. Song = Great. It's not SOARING machines, you dolt.

If you like this song i suggest others by Imogen - Goodnight and Go, Speeding Cars, or songs by her old band Frou Frou - Let Go.
Also a song with same type of style, Laurie Anderson, O Superman, Example #22

Anonymous said...

Wow... Whoever likes this song just because they saw it on the OC, That's great. Lmao. No offense, but you need to get a life!
